Kim Kardashian is looking back on her struggle with psoriasis — including some of the unorthodox ways she’s found relief from the chronic itchy skin condition.
The Skims founder told hosts Mary Alice Haney and Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi, as well as guest rheumatologist Dr. Daniel Wallace on the July 16 episode of the SHE MD podcast that she’s the only one of Kris Jenner’s six children who inherited their mom’s psoriasis.
But Kardashian, now 43, says she didn’t develop the condition until she was 30.
“I remember going out in New York and I wore this silver sequined dress and it was itchy, and I thought it was just a rash from the dress because it came that night. And then I got home, saw my mom… She looked at my legs and goes, ‘Oh my God, you have psoriasis?’ ” the reality TV star said.
A cortisone shot helped the condition go away for a few years, she said — but then ”it came back maybe five years later. And I’ve never gotten rid of it again.”
“One day I’ll just have an itch attack and I’ll scratch it and it’ll all start bleeding, and I just can’t take it,” she continued.
The Kardashians star said that when she posted about her psoriasis “everyone under the sun was sending me home remedies.”
And she tried them all.
“I tried drinking tar tea, special herbs. I tried the holistic way. I tried a celery juice diet for six weeks. I tried every topical cream, every soap from natural to unnatural. At some points I was just like, ‘I’ll do anything,’ ” Kardashian said.
But “the best advice” she ever received, she shared, was from Beverly Hills dermatologist Dr. Harold Lancer, who gave her a prescription cream and told her to try “putting Saran Wrap around it and sleeping on it. Sleeping with it with the Saran Wrap.”
Kardashian added, “When it was on my legs, I’d put the cream on, Saran Wrap it. Put socks on, go to bed. Do my elbows, because it would get on my elbows. Put a hair tie around the Saran Wrap so it wouldn’t come out.”
“I sounded like the Tin Man, super crunchy,” she quipped, referencing The Wizard of Oz‘s resident noisemaking metal man.
According to Kardashian, the method worked. “It would take it away,” she said.
