Cecily Strong has found her match in her fiancé, Jack!
The comedian first revealed she was dating a man named Jack in a first-person essay published by Vulture in 2020. In it, Strong chronicled what it was like to find true love while also navigating one of the most challenging and darkest times of her life: the death of her younger cousin Owen.
“I think you were a gift to me from Owen,” Strong wrote. “And I like thinking of it that way.”
Despite having a successful career in the spotlight, Strong is tightly-lipped about her personal life. However, during a Late Night with Seth Meyers appearance in 2024, the star shared a rare glimpse into her ultra-private relationship with Jack.
“I got engaged,” Strong excitedly revealed.
While an incoming text message not meant for Strong’s eyes spoiled Jack’s proposal plans, the Schmigadoon! star said she asked him to do it “whenever you want to do it, that’ll be the surprise.”
Only, Strong was too excited to make things official.
“I still then took that from him,” she explained. “I had kind of a rough night in December, and I was like, ‘Can I just wear the damn ring now?’ So, that’s how we got engaged.”
So, who is the Saturday Night Live alum’s number one supporter? Here is everything to know about Cecily Strong’s fiancé, Jack, and his sweet relationship with the comedian.
Jack met Cecily at a Christmas party in 2019
Strong met her future fiancé through her new agent at the time.
The pair were introduced at a Christmas party in December 2019 — just days prior to Strong’s month-long trip to California and Jack’s two-week voyage to Cuba.
“I talk to the man with the mustache. He’s very cute. I have social anxiety, and I’m drunk and tired, so I have no idea what we talk about. He comes home with me,” Strong penned of their meet-cute in a first-person essay for Vulture in 2020.
“The next morning I’m a little more shy. He is less shy. ‘Can I give you my number?’ he asks. I hand him the pink-flamingo pen my psychiatrist gave me that week. I find an old receipt, and he writes “Jack” and his phone number on the back,” she continued. “Now I have to text him first in order for him to have my number. I text him right after he leaves. I like him.
Cecily has opened up about meeting Jack while grieving the loss of a relative
Strong first mentioned she was dating Jack in a first-person essay for Vulture in 2020, in which she explained the mixed emotions she felt of falling in love while simultaneously grieving a close family relative. The couple met a month prior to the death of her younger cousin Owen, who died of brain cancer in January 2020.
“At first I thought it was so difficult to meet someone right as I was losing someone I loved so much. I knew he’d have to be patient with me. He’d have to let me grieve,” she wrote. “It would be easier not to even try during that process. But grieving for Owen was like nothing I’d ever experienced, and I promised Owen and myself to continue to let all that love be there along with the sadness.”
Jack and Cecily attended the 2020 SheBelieves Cup together
The pair made their first public appearance together at the 2020 SheBelieves Cup in Frisco, Texas. Strong marked the special occasion with a celebratory Instagram video in which the SNL alum showed off her personalized U.S. Women’s National Team soccer jersey.
“I spent International Women’s Day watching the best team on earth @uswnt win a soccer game,” she captioned the post.
In her Vulture essay, Strong wrote of their date: “He’s excited to be there, to watch women’s soccer with me. He gets choked up when he sees the number of little girls who get to have sports heroes, as it’s still rare even though they are the most badass team in the world. But I digress. Jack is loving the game.“
Jack proposed to Cecily in 2023
During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the actress revealed that she and Jack had gotten engaged in December 2023. Strong explained that in a comedic turn of events Jack’s big surprise was unfortunately spoiled when she accidentally saw a text pop up on his cell phone.
“One day he was like, ‘I’m so inundated with emails and texts, look at this.’ And he showed me his phone, and the first text was from a friend that said, ‘How did it go?! Ring emoji,’ ” Strong recalled on the show. “And then, I was like. ‘Oh no, should I?’ And he went, ‘Did you see that?’ And I was like, ‘I could try very hard to lie, but…’ So then I knew.”
And despite Jack’s good-hearted effort, the ring only fit Strong’s index finger.
“I don’t know my ring size — I wear like every size ring. So, he took one of those, and it was five sizes too big,” Strong explained, adding with a laugh, “I was wearing it on my index finger for a long time. Not as a statement, it just would’ve fallen off.”
