Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender are officially a family of four!
The Oscar winner confirmed the news in a new Elle UK profile, in which she quietly shared the birth of the couple’s second baby. While speaking with co-star Taylor Russell, Vikander shared what it was like to go back to work on the film, Hope, and how physically demanding the work entailed, especially after having just given birth.
“All women have such different experiences, and going through it a second time was definitely harder for me,” Vikander shared. “But I think training made it easier. Going through those nine months is like a marathon, so it does help if you’re strong going into it. It’s so physically demanding, and I have so much admiration for any woman who has done it. I gave birth four times on screen before I did it myself. Your job is to pretend as an actor, but every time I had to give birth, I said to every woman on set, ‘I’m sorry.’ I felt like such an imposter.”
Vikander and her Oscar-nominated husband tied the knot in 2017 and welcomed their first child together in 2021. They previously co-starred as a married couple in the 2016 romantic drama, The Light Between Oceans. However, they had already met by the time production began.
“We had met at Toronto Film Festival and BAFTAs just on the dance floor,” Vikander previously told ET while doing press for the film. Added Fassbender, “I thought [I was a good dancer] until she started dancing and then I felt like I had two left feet.”
In 2022, she opened up about previously suffering a miscarriage in real life after starring in The Light Between Oceans, in which her character experiences two. “[The miscarriage] was so extreme, painful to go through and, of course, it made me recall making that film,” she told The Sunday Times. “That film has another meaning now.”
