A Metropolitan Police officer has pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office after stealing money from a man who died after collapsing on the street.

Craig Carter, 51, from Harlow in Essex, took about £115 during the incident in Hornsey in September 2022.

He appeared at Wood Green Crown Court where Judge Daniel Fugallo told him to expect a custodial sentence.

Carter was granted bail and is due to be sentenced at the same court in September.

The judge ordered a pre-sentence report and added: “Neither the ordering of the report nor the fact that I am granting you bail should be taken as any indication to the type of sentence you will receive.”

Carter, a police constable, who works for the Met’s North Area Command Unit which covers Enfield and Haringey, is suspended from duty.
