How Rugby Star Ilona Maher is Keeping Cool During Summer Olympics

Team USA rugby star Ilona Maher has a new opponent: Paris’s summer heat.

On Thursday, August 1, the Olympic bronze medalist, 27, shared a video of herself scrolling on her phone while lifting her navy top to reveal a white sports bra while on standby to appear in a television broadcast from the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

“On a 90 degree day we had to wear [a] full on sweatsuit for 12 hours,” she captioned the post.

Meanwhile, a text on the video itself read, “About to be on TV but the required fit is not letting any air in.”

In a second post, Maher is seen wearing the same outfit and proclaiming “It’s hot!” to the camera as her teammate holds an imaginary mic in front of her face.

“The grind never stops,” she wrote in the caption.

The sport star’s sister Olivia — known for coining the viral “girl dinner” trend — shared a related snap to her Instagram Stories. In the photo, Maher is barring her abs while rocking the casual ensemble with her shirt tucked up, once again, to reveal the bottom half of her sports bra.

“Big ol’ day of press in the Paris heat for our Olympic medalist,” Olivia wrote.

Maher, who has nearly 2 million followers on TikTok, recently opened up to PEOPLE in an exclusive interview about her social media fame.

“It’s very much off the cuff. It’s kind of like, my teammates say I say my jokes twice — once to them, and then once to the world, so it’s just riffing,” she said. “Whatever I am online is how I am in real life. [My teammates] keep me grounded, they keep me sane.”
