BTS’ Suga Apologizes After Having License Revoked for Drunkenly Riding Electric Scooter

BTS‘ Suga has issued an apology following a run-in with the police.

On Wednesday, the member of the global K-pop group issued an apology across social media after his license was revoked for operating an electric scooter under the influence.

“Hello, this is Suga. I’m feeling extremely heavy-hearted and sorry to have to come to you all over such disappointing matter,” he wrote. “I rode and electric scooter home last night, after having drinks with dinner. I thought that it was a close distance, and I did not realize that you could not operate an electric scooter after drinking. As such, I violated traffic rules.”

He continued by explaining his version of events, “I parked in front of the main gates to my home and I fell over by myself in that process. A police was nearby, and through the results of a breathalyzer test, my license was revoked and I paid a fine. Although no one was hurt, neither was any property harmed in the matter, as this is inexcusably something I have to take responsibility for, I bow my head in apology to everyone. I apologize to those who were hut by my irresponsible and wrong actions, and I will be even more careful with my actions to prevent such matters from occurring in the future.”

In addition to Suga’s statement, BTS’ label, Bighit, also released a statement to ET on Wednesday.

“We express our sincere apology for the incident involving BTS member SUGA and his electric kickboard accident,” the label stated. “On the night of Tuesday, July 6, SUGA was wearing a helmet and returning home on an electric kickboard while under the influence of alcohol. After traveling approximately 500 meters, he fell down while parking the ride. The police in the vicinity conducted a sobriety test, and as a result, he received a fine and had his license revoked. No injuries or property damage occurred from the incident, and he was escorted home by the police.”

“We apologize for the disappointment caused by the artist’s inappropriate behavior. As a social service agent during his military service, he is prepared to accept any disciplinary actions from his place of work for causing a social disturbance,” the statement continued. “We will take greater care to ensure that such incidents do not happen again in the future.”

Suga, 31, is currently serving as a member of the South Korean military as part of his mandatory service. Other members of BTS including  V, Jimin, RM, Jung Kook and J-Hope are all still serving time in the military. In June, Jin — who was the first to enlist for his 18-month service — completed his time in the military

The group is expected to reunite and make more music as a group in 2025 after everyone’s service is complete.
