The 2024 Paris Olympics closing ceremony is expected to feature performances from Billie Eilish and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. Additionally, H.E.R. is expected to sing the U.S. national anthem, the Associated Press reported, to mark the handover for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
The closing ceremony will feature the artists in a mix of pre-taped and live performances.
In a recent announcement, the Olympics said the closing ceremony would feature more than 100 “performers, acrobats, dancers and circus artists,” with the production overseen by artistic designer Thomas Jolly, who also served as artistic director for the opening ceremony. The event, indoors unlike the Seine-set opener, will feature an “original soundtrack, new interpretations, musical performances and the participation of world-renowned singers.”
“Part of the show will take place in the air, while the giant sets, costumes and spectacular lighting effects will take spectators on a journey through time, both past and future,” the announcement said of the event, titled “Records.”
The opening ceremony was just as star-studded as the closing spectacle, featuring the grand return of Celine Dion, marking her first performance since her Stiff-Person Syndrome diagnosis, as well as Lady Gaga.
In addition to the musical performances during the closing ceremony, Tom Cruise is also reportedly skydiving to the Hollywood Sign during a pre-taped segment for the L.A. handoff. THR had learned of a scrapped plan that included a large event at Will Rogers State Beach, where the Olympic flag handover would take place. The idea was ultimately discarded after concerns from the LAPD about an extended closure of the Pacific Coast Highway and difficulties in securing the required permits from the California Coastal Commission.
Cruise was spotted attending Olympics events, including the women’s gymnastics competition, in which Simone Biles ultimately won four medals. Other stars spotted at the Olympics include Greta Gerwig, Ariana Grande, Tom Brady, Flavor Flav, Cynthia Erivo, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, Nick Jonas and Anna Wintour and Snoop Dogg, who has had a number of viral moments in Paris as he’s helped with NBC’s primetime coverage.
The closing ceremony is set to air live on NBC and Peacock Sunday, from noon-2:15 p.m. PT, with the proceedings taking place at the Stade de France just north of Paris.
