Nasar wins 89kg gold with world record lift

Bulgaria’s Karlos Nasar set a world record as he claimed gold in the men’s 89kg weightlifting on Friday.

The 20-year-old improved his own clean and jerk record to 224kg, which contributed to a record total of 404kg.

Colombia’s Yeison Lopez took silver with 390kg while Italy’s Antonino Pizzolato claimed a second straight bronze (384kg).

Olivia Reeves won the women’s 71kg title, with the 21-year-old American registering a total of 262kg.

Colombia’s Mari Sanchez was second with 257kg while Ecuador’s Angie Palacios finished third (256kg).
