So big news in the TV world! ABC has officially chosen the hosts for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards on September 15th…
…and the choice is brilliant. Amazing. Incredible. Showstopping. Perfect. Completely not ever been done before. All the things.
This is a huge choice for many reasons, which we’ll go through, but let me start by explaining that normally, the Emmys aren’t hosted by these kinds of fan-fave surprise guests. So it’s awesome they’re switching it up this year.
Now, back to the Levys. If you’re living under a rock and don’t remember who these two icons are, let me remind you. Most recently, they’re the stars of Schitt’s Creek, which ran from 2015 to 2020. Oh, and they’re also father and son.
In addition to acting, Eugene and Dan were executive producers, directors, and writers on Schitt’s Creek. They can do it all. Quadruple threats.
If it isn’t cute enough already that they were on Schitt’s Creek together, here’s another reason why this is such wonderful news: they’re making history as the first-ever father-son duo to host the Emmys!
The two of them are honestly Emmys legends at this point. Collectively, they’ve won 7 Emmys — and even set a record in 2020 for the most wins for a single season of a comedy series.
Specifically, that year, Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series went to Eugene, and Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series went to Dan. This means they made history AGAIN as the first father-son duo to win Emmys in the same year. Double whammy!
And in case you’re wondering if they have hosting experience, yes, THEY DO INDEED. For one, Dan Levy hosted The Hills Aftershow on MTV with Jessi Cruickshank in the 2000s. So there.
Besides, honestly? It’s evident these two will absolutely kill it, regardless of their past hosting credits. Because if you’ve ever watched them on TV or in interviews, you know they’re hilarious, and genuinely just a delight to watch.
“For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough,” they said in a press release on Friday.
“We’re thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all on Sept. 15,” they continued.
So wholesome! So exciting! And I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to say this, but so Canadian! Seriously, I’m positive literally every Canadian is jumping for joy right now, because we’re all just so happy for them. I’ll be watching like a proud mom as they take the stage.
But until they do, hey, please let us know how you think they’ll do as hosts in the comments below! Or if there are any other duos you’d love to see host the Emmys one day, tell us.
