Ella Emhoff Wore a Dress by This TikTok-Famous Designer to 2024 DNC

Ella Emhoff worked with a TikTok-famous designer to create her look for the night four of the 2024 Democratic National Convention.

On Aug. 22, the 25-year-old supported her stepmom Kamala Harris on the final night of the DNC in Chicago wearing a custom design by creator Joe Ando

Ando, a Fashion Institute of Technology graduate who’s also acted in The Walking Dead, made the model an off-the-shoulder dress featuring a periwinkle top and white ruffle skirt with a V-shaped waistline. Emhoff styled the dress with crew socks and black ballet flats.

Before Emhoff debuted the dress on national television, Ando teased that he was working with the model for the “historic event” on TikTok, where he has 2.9 million followers. Then, when the moment finally happened, he posted a reaction video of him cheering.

“Watching a dress you made on national television,” he wrote across the clip. “ELLA LOOKS SO GOOD!!” he added in the caption.

He shared the video on Instagram too, where Emhoff commented, “WE DID IT JOE!!!!!” referencing the viral meme from when Harris found out she and President Joe Biden won the 2020 election.

Ando originally went viral for creating clothing for his partner Niamh Adkins. In a TikTok video shared on June 27, Ando revealed that he started out by designing in his parents garage and continued to do so in his apartment until getting his own art studio this year.

His popularity turned him into a social media sensation even among the stars, earning him quite the rep for creating bespoke pieces for A-list celebrities. He’s also become synonymous with his tagline, “Can I make you a dress.”

In February, he made a cobweb-inspired dress for Dakota Johnson during her Madame Web press tour. One month later, had the opportunity to give Millie Bobby Brown one of his pieces inspired by her movie Damsel. Keke Palmer and Never Have I Ever actress Maitreyi Ramakrishnan are his most recent clientele.
