Sarah Jessica Parker Wore This Surprising Summer Denim Trend

When I think of summer denim, my mind immediately goes to cut-offs; whether it’s daisy dukes or Bermudas, jean shorts are the obvious way to bring the classic material into warmer months. If we’re being honest, though, they’re not my favorite. But this summer, rather than ruling out denim entirely (my typical stance), I’ve found myself all in on a surprisingly versatile style celebrities keep wearing.

Jennifer Garner kicked off my denim dress obsession when she wore a mid-length style to the airport and Sarah Jessica Parker just confirmed that it’s also going to be my fall go-to when she paired her bustier-inspired dress with a fitted cardigan at the Paris Olympics. Between their everyday-chic styles and Kylie Jenner’s ultra-mini one, I’m convinced I might be reaching for a denim dress—which dresses up and down with ease—more than I will a pair of blue jeans.

Below, shop the denim trend celebrities and fashion editors keep reaching for, starting at $44.

10 Denim Dresses

Petal & Pup Callum Sleeveless Denim Maxi Dress

Nordstrom

This full-length denim dress from Petal & Pup has a dark wash, fitted top, and full skirt, making it the perfect lookalike for both Garner and Parker’s dresses. It also includes pleats, which add serious volume to the skirt, as well as contrast stitching that almost looks like boning. The two details really elevate the all-denim style, making it ideal for dressing up—but as Garner proved, all it takes to make this look more everyday is a pair of sneakers.

Gap Denim Shift Mini Dress

Gap

Gap’s denim shift dress is destined to become your most-worn style. The boxy silhouette and 100-percent cotton design give this dress all-day comfort, but despite that roomy fit, this isn’t frumpy, and it’s thanks to the dark wash and crisp collar. I adore that this dress works for almost everything: Add sneakers and it becomes your go-to Sunday afternoon look, while a sweet ballet flat makes it ideal for the office. And come September, all you need is a pair of knee-high boots to make this dress a fall staple.

Anthropologie the Tommie Cap-Sleeve Front-Zip Shirt Dress

Anthropologie

This midi dress from Anthropologie might be my favorite take on the trending style. While you’ll find lots of shift and A-line denim dresses to shop, this one feels pretty unique, featuring cap sleeves, a smocked waist, and a gold zipper that runs from the top to the bottom of the dress. But it’s not just those details that make this a must-buy for me; according to shoppers, it’s also “extremely comfortable” and “super flattering,” with many people noting that it feels as good as it looks.

Reformation Tropez Denim Mini Dress

Refromation

Though a bit of a splurge, the Tropez dress from Reformation is, IMO, a must-have. I mean, has denim ever looked this chic? The dress, which is available in both a summer white and deep indigo, has a button-front closure and four pockets, all of which are finished with large gold buttons that give this style a super expensive look. I would wear this with Mary Jane pumps for the rest of the summer and transition it into fall by layering a crisp button-down underneath.

Denim dresses are the unexpected trend celebrities made me fall in love with this season, and I plan to wear it well into the next. Shop more styles, below.
