Camp Bestival’s first night in pictures at Weston Park

Neon lights lit up the sky for Camp Bestival’s first night.

The four-day festival began on Thursday at Weston Park on the Shropshire-Staffordshire border.

It is the third year of the family-friendly event, which originated 16 years ago in Dorset.

As well as live music, there are dozens of events, including parkour, football, arts and crafts, and yoga.

“Some people are festival veterans, they know exactly who they want to see all weekend, some people want to potter around and do all the kids’ stuff,” said festival founder, Rob Da Bank.

“Our four kids are here, three out of the four are now working with us on the site, so it’s a family thing.

“There’s a lot of families here where the mums and dads are in their 40s and 50s, and a lot of families that are in their 20s and 30s.”

Headlining the event, which sees thousands of visitors, are Faithless, Paloma Faith, McFly and Rick Astley.

“McFly are going to appeal to one set of people, and some other parents are going to take their kids to go and watch Orbital or Faithless,” he said.
