Queen Letizia of Spain gave her standard classic style a contemporary twist for the Luca de Tena, Mariano de Cavia and Mingote journalism awards on Thursday. The royal, who attended the Madrid event alongside husband King Felipe VI, fashioned a designer ensemble that featured a bevy of shimmering elements.
For the occasion, Queen Letizia wore the cream sequin boucle midi dress by Self Portrait. The dress featured a sequined bouclé, giving the garment its soft structure and shine. The dress was cinched at the waist by a removable white belt and featured diamanté buttons running down the front placket of the dress and on the four pockets of the bodice. The look also included a silk white skirt.
Other elements of Queen Letizia’s ensemble for the event included metallic leather sandals courtesy of Aquazzura and a clutch by Magrit. The Spanish royal accessorized with a few more glittering elements, including a pair of dazzling earrings and a statement bracelet.
King Felipe suited up in a classic black-and-white tuxedo with a simple black bowtie and black patent leather shoes.
It’s not often Queen Letizia fashions a look that is so visibly contemporary. The royal often fashions pieces with classic silhouettes and cuts, but gives them a contemporary twist or edge depending on the occasion.
Recently, however, Queen Letizia has embraced pieces with a clear modern influence. Prior to Thursday’s journalism awards, the royal was joined by members of her family, including daughters Princess Leonor and Princess Infanta Sofía, for the Girona Awards in Barcelona on July 9. For the occasion, Queen Letizia fashioned a bespoke A-line dress by Mango, which featured an asymmetric neckline and defined waist in a neutral tone to complement her daughters’ all-white ensembles and beige wedges.
Queen Letizia’s style consistently features silhouettes that evoke a classic, traditional aesthetic. Her recent look for the 2024 journalism awards in Madrid, however, suggests the Spanish royal’s wardrobe is much more versatile, embracing glittering elements, modern designs and more.
